Alaina Lockhart, MP, Addresses Club

For our last meeting of 2017 on Dec. 17, Rotarian Ian Smyth introduced Rotarian Alaina Lockhart, MP for Fundy Royal.

Alaina has served on several Standing Committees, including Agriculture, Agri-Food, and Veteran Affairs.

Since her election, Alaina has presented two motions in the House of Commons focused on growing the economy and strengthening the workforce in Atlantic Canada...

Alaina talked about the government’s programs for small businesses. The government has several incentives for small businesses. Some of these incentives include tax reductions, online support for startups and programs for youth entrepreneurs or futurepreneurs. Incentives also include social programs through the Tax-Free Canada Child Benefit, attracting skillsets for economically-challenged Atlantic Canada and increasing immigration numbers to lessen the impact of changing demographics with an ageing population. Even changes in Employment Insurance for students who are returning to school. These are all efforts to support the middle class.

Alaina was thanked by Rotarian and MLA Bruce Northrup.
