Our Local MP

On January 9, 2017, Rotarian Angie Cummings gave the introduction to our fellow Rotarian, Alaina Lockhart.

Alaina is a graduate of Sussex Regional High School and the University of New Brunswick, Saint John, where she obtained a Bachelor of Administration with a specialization in Human Resource Management.

Alaina has travelled worldwide, been an entrepreneur, and has severed the community in different avenues – Councillor for Norton, Chair for Relay For Life, and Board member for Enterprise Fundy. She is married to Rick and has a 14-year old daughter, Lauren.

Presently she sits on two standing House committees – (1) Veteran Affairs and (2) Agriculture and Agri-Food...

Alaina Lockhart explained that she has a passion for veterans and farmers; therefore, her membership on the two federal standing committees related to these topics are well suited.

Some of Alaina’s priorities have been resource development, health, tourism, and strengthening the workforce. Alaina emphasized the need for everyone to participate in public forums – meetings in local communities and social media – as the government does listen to its people.

Alaina highlighted her efforts to get Private Members’ Motions, M-39, Immigration to Atlantic Canada passed.  This was a recommendation to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration to undertake a study on immigration to Atlantic Canada to strengthen the shrinking population and strengthen the economy. This was passed unanimously.

Rotarian Tina Monahan thanked Alaina.
